With over 400 different types of materials tried and tested, our understanding of their acoustic composition and performance, coupled with an experienced team of acoustic engineers allows Ventac to work closely with our customers to deliver the support, performance, and value that they demand on all their projects.

Ventac acoustic laboratories are used for acoustic materials development, vehicle noise testing and building materials acoustic analysis. Ventac can perform the testing required to bring new products and systems to market or can help in designing and specifying acoustic research and development within our test facilities for the Vehicles and Industrial Industries.

Typical tests conducted include sound transmission, impact sound, sound insulation, absorption, dampening, sound power and pressure, sound intensity and field tests to validate in-situ applications. Acoustic performance measurements are carried out in accordance with the relevant IS EN, ISO, BS, ASTM and relevant building and vehicle industry standards including TFL and PIEK.

Acoustic Camera Technology

State-of-the-art acoustic technologies used for visualizing, identifying and determining the characteristics of noise sources using an array of microphones and camera. The acoustic camera is used for the quick identification of mid to high-frequency noise sources. Live measurements are possible using far-field beamforming and near-field holography measurements for detailed noise analysis of noise radiating from its source. Images can be animated and can record sound for further analysis and to demonstrate the phase or sound wave. Ventac’s acoustic technologies are a powerful educational tool for visualising the path and characteristics of the sound.

The large acoustic camera array is composed of 1064 individual microphones, and a smaller array is handheld and used for measuring smaller sources or cramped environments encountered on vehicles. This approach combines high tech test techniques with hands-on engineering experience to quickly identify and progress and noise control solution.

Testing Capabilities

Building & Industrial Noise Testing Capabilities

The acoustic performance of a wall or partition construction can be tested to measure airborne noise and sound insulation properties in accordance with test standard ISO 10140 Part 2. The controlled acoustic environment of the chambers allows for the exact measurement of sound energy lost across the test samples or products and are conducted in accordance with standard ISO 717.

Floor constructions can be tested for airborne sound and impact sound insulation to test standard SIO 10140 Part 3. The testing facilities can be used to assess the sound energy that is transmitted structurally to determine how a floor will respond to noise coming from sources such as footsteps, furniture movement etc. Building components such as doors and windows can also be tested.

Sound insertion loss measurements for ventilation components can be conducted on duct components such as attenuators and sound insulation measurements can be conducted for product applications such as acoustic louvres, with additional facilities to conduct tests on air-flow noise measurements on components such as louvres and grills and sound power levels of fans to include case breakout, inlet and outlet noise.

Vehicle Noise Control Testing Capabilities

Material compositions can be tested for sound absorption and sound insulation and are conducted to ISO 354. This test method is conducted in a reverb chamber and is more accurate than alternative tests that use benchtop equipment, which tend to underestimate the materials performance in a diffuse acoustic environment such as a room.

 

Machinery, vehicles and equipment noise can be measured at the sound power level and is conducted to ISO 3741. Sound power level measurements are conducted where noise is measured in controlled conditions to give accurate results.

 

Noise source analysis is conducted on additional complex noise sources including vehicles and machinery. This work is conducted using precision test equipment and extensive engineering experience specialising in this field. As part of the assessment, noise control measures can be assessed and prototype acoustic liners can be quickly supplied and tested on the vehicle or machinery. This testing procedure is supported by advanced noise source identification techniques including sound intensity equipment and acoustic camera arrays for beamforming measurements and quick identification of mid to high range frequency noise sources.

Near-field holography measurements are used for detailed analysis of noise radiating from a source at a given frequency. This approach is used to combine high tech test techniques with hands-on engineering experience to rapidly progress solutions for vehicle and machinery noise issues.
